Back in the day, the thread spun on our mule machines was stored on pirns — but not all weaving mills could use them. That’s where the cone winder came in! This clever bit of kit transferred thread from pirns onto cones, making it easier to store and transport between mills. Our cone winder, built by Arundel, Coulthard & Co. of Stockport, is still going strong —
