First baseman Nathaniel Lowe on Monday formally signed with the Boston Red Sox, the club announced after it finalized a deal for a prorated portion of the major league minimum, adding a potent bat to a powerful lineup that is averaging five runs per game.

The Red Sox officially announced the signing of a former Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and World Series champion first baseman Monday.

Boston also recalled outfielder/infielder Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester, placed outfielder Rob Refsnyder (left oblique strain) on the 10-day IL and designated catcher Ali Sánchez for assignment. Sánchez spent six games on the active roster as a third catcher, recording just one plate appearance.
