Hurricane Erin’s distant track off Florida’s east coast has helped to pull in dry air, worsening drought conditions and fueling wildfires across the state, including a massive 20,000-acre blaze northwest of Miami.

Hurricane Erin is fueling dangerous surf and rip currents along Florida’s east coast this week, with waves topping 8 feet and a High Surf Advisory in effect through Thursday.

Morning clouds will help cap daytime heat in Central Florida on Sunday, Spectrum News 13 meteorologist Zach Covey said. Showers and storms are expected in the area in the afternoon, Covey said.

Increased rain chances and cloud cover across the state will help keep conditions slightly “cooler” than some of the last few weeks.

Hot and humid with a chance of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours. The beaches will continue to see life-threatening and dangerous rip currents from Hurricane Erin, which re-strengthened into a dangerous Category 4 storm out in the Atlantic.

Don't expect Florida temperatures to drop dramatically. Highs are forecast to range from the upper 80s into the low to mid 90s by the end of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
