The Syrian government says clashes in the southern city of Suwayda have stopped after a week of violence left hundreds of people dead, drawing Israeli intervention and US condemnation.

As violence broke out last week between two ethnic groups in southern Syria, both the Israeli and Syrian governments intervened.

The past week has seen some of the worst sectarian violence in Syria since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s dictatorship.
