Ford has confirmed that it is expanding its technical involvement in Red Bull Powertrains’ ambitious Formula 1 programme.

Ford and Red Bull Racing will co-develop the new power units that will be used in the team's 2026 Formula One cars, along with those of Scuderia Alpha Tauri.

But in 2023, Red Bull Powertrains formed an exciting new partnership with Ford to develop the next generation of power unit to drive Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls to the front of the pack.

Rushbrook confirmed that Ford is contributing more to the Red Bull project than originally envisaged. "The initial focus or agreement was mostly on the electrification side,” he said.

Red Bull Ford Powertrains is focusing on the manufacturing of the internal combustion engine, turbo unit and high-voltage propulsion systems currently, Ford says.

Red Bull will continue to race with unbranded Honda power units until 2026, but Ford will begin with immediate technical assistance and then supply Ford engines when the new regulations begin.
