C omputer "spaghetti" model runs and meteorologists flagged an eastern Atlantic disturbance in early September as having an increased chance to develop into a t ropical storm, which would be called Gabrielle, with some forecasts showing a westward track toward the Caribbean.

The National Hurricane Center on Monday bumped up again its forecast chances that a tropical wave in the Atlantic would develop into the season’s next tropical depression or storm.

The system is "likely to form during the middle to latter part of the week" as the area moves at 10 to 15 mph in a west-northwesterly direction, north of the islands in the northeastern Caribbean, according to the center. If it becomes a tropical storm, the next name up in the 2025 storm name rotation is Gabrielle.
