You will need some specialized tools to accurately degree a camshaft. These include a dial indicator with a magnetic base, a piston stop, a degree wheel, a homemade pointer, and a checking lifter.

Rotate the engine clockwise until the dial-indicator reading matches the tappet-lift-opening checkpoint specified on the timing card. Record the number indicated on the degree wheel.
