Newark Mayor Ras Baraka arrested at ICE facility while joining Democrats to conduct 'oversight'
Ras Baraka, the Democratic mayor of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested on Friday while joining members of Congress at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center, according to interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba.
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs at DHS, addressed the incident in a CNN appearance on Saturday.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said in a debate Monday his actions that got him arrested days earlier at an ICE facility were "absolutely" an effective protest against President Donald Trump.
