A diplomatic row between Israel and Paris has broken out after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused French President Emmanuel Macron of fuelling “the anti-Semitic fire” in France by planning to recognise Palestinian statehood.
The French president says claims his decision to recognise a Palestinian state had fuelled antisemitism “will not go unanswered”, as Israel calls up 60,000 reservists for its planned military expansion.
In July, France and Saudi Arabia had agreed to revive the push for a two-state solution at a UN conference in New York in September.
