Open Disk Utility and you can select the external drive from a list of connected volumes and there is a Disk First Aid option to run a manual check on the disk to identify any issues worth noting.

On Windows 11, you can no longer open Disk Cleanup from the disk properties dialog. However, you can still open it from the Run dialog or search for it in the Start menu.
