Candidates came out swinging at New York City’s final mayoral debate Wednesday night, with all three candidates launching personal attacks and spotlighting each other’s hottest controversies.

In the 1991 Louisiana governor’s race, voters were faced with two revolting choices: David Duke, a neo-Nazi and former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and Edwin Edwards, a former three-term Democratic governor who had been indicted and acquitted on corruption charges.

In New York City, all eyes are on the race for mayor as frontrunner and Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa are making campaign appearances and headlines regularly.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams will endorse Andrew Cuomo in the city’s mayoral election, a spokesperson said Thursday, throwing his weight behind a bitter rival he recently called a “snake and a liar” as the former governor tries to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.

A jury convicted a former New York correctional officer of murder in the fatal beating of an inmate late last year while acquitting two other former guards in the killing, which prompted Governor Kathy Hochul to order sweeping prison reforms.

The bill prohibits other states, territories or districts from sending their National Guard troops to New York without approval from the governor.
