As things stand on Wednesday morning, the House is currently split 67-67, though two races won by the DFL are subject to recounts that could still swing control to the GOP. It potentially means the end – or at the very least a check – on the DFL trifecta that has led to several major Democratic pieces of legislation over the past two years.

Voters in the district chose DFLer Ann Johnson Stewart with 52.43%% of the vote, over Republican Kathleen Fowke, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State.

Early results on Wednesday morning show Republicans flipping three seats: one each in the Iron Range (7B), Winona (26A) and St. Peter (18A) Minnesota. The turnover marks the first time since 1978 since the Minnesota House has been faced with a tie.

The DFL Party kept control of the Minnesota Senate with Ann John Stewart winning the only State Senate race on the ballot. But as Esme Murphy reports, the Minnesota House is headed for what looks like a tie.
