Millions of people in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic are preparing for flooding rain and strong winds as Tropical Storm Melissa, which is now forecast to become a major hurricane, meanders in the central Caribbean.
Unstable conditions trailing the centre of Tropical Storm Jerry continue to affect the island. Increased cloudiness, with showers and thunderstorms and strong gusty winds will be maintained today, as Jerry continues to pull away from the region.
The National Hurricane Center now projects that Melissa will strengthen into a major hurricane in the central Caribbean. Melissa is expected to produce heavy rain across Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica over the next few days. Coastal regions could experience between 8 and 10 inches of rain.
