The 2025 college football season has officially surpassed the midway point of the regular season after the conclusion of a thrilling Week 8 slate. Among the games that will shape the College Football Playoff picture was the final matchup between No. 13 Notre Dame and No. 20 USC for the foreseeable future.
No. 17 Vanderbilt got things started with a gritty home win over No. 10 LSU after another huge performance by QB Diego Pavia. In the afternoon window, No. 9 Georgia overcame a stiff challenge from No. 5 Ole Miss in an SEC shootout. Then Arizona State pulled off a surprise, holding off a late charge by No. 7 Texas Tech to win their Big 12 clash.

7. Vanderbilt (17): As we mentioned earlier, history is set to be made as Vanderbilt will almost certainly set a new school record for highest-ever AP Top 25 poll ranking. The ceiling for Vanderbilt's rise will be Alabama, the only team that it's lost to this season, but the floor is LSU's previous ranking just on the outside of the top 10.
