GOP senators had sent signals to the administration since the summer that Paul Ingrassia lacked the support for confirmation, in a rare rebuke to President Donald Trump.
Paul Ingrassia, who was tapped for a top ethics position, faced backlash after Politico reported on messages he allegedly sent, including one saying he had a “Nazi streak.”
Both lawmakers have clashed with Trump over his “big, beautiful bill” passed earlier in the summer. Paul has vowed to back Massie as he campaigns for reelection, despite Trump throwing his support behind Navy veteran Ed Gallrein, who has not officially entered the race for Kentucky’s 4th District seat.
