NHL insider Chris Johnston was a guest on TSN’s morning show, First Up, and discussed news and rumors around the NHL. The one topic that caught some attention in Leafs Land was his reporting on both Toronto Maple Leafs forwards John Tavares and Mitch Marner.

Mitch Marner's pending free agency has been a huge story in Toronto all season long, and now it appears as though he's set to try and cash in on the open market despite some speculation that he could look to stay with the only NHL team he's known thus far.

Appearing on TSN 1050’s "First Up" on Monday, Dreger suggested that Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving should bypass Marner’s agent, Darren Ferris, and speak directly to the player to push for a decision.
