A fire burned aboard a US Navy warship anchored off Okinawa for 12 hours, injuring two sailors, a statement from the Navy’s 7th Fleet in Japan said.

A fire aboard a U.S. warship was declared extinguished early Thursday, 12 hours after it started off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, with two sailors being treated for minor injuries

Two sailors sustained minor injuries, the Navy said, adding that the ship’s crew will remain on board in Okinawa.

Orange County firefighters rushed to a Laguna Niguel neighborhood to extinguish flames burning near homes Wednesday afternoon. The brush fire started on the hillside near Ridgeway Avenue and Alcott Place at around 3:30 p.m. Crews quickly doused the flames as the fire burned vegetation dangerously close to several homes.

A slow-burning vegetation blaze known as the Beacon Fire started shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the city of Laguna Niguel.
