Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said that it plans to restart shipments of its MI308 chips to China after the US said it would approve the sales, following a similar decision on an Nvidia Corp. semiconductor.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) is reportedly set to restart shipments of its MI308 AI processors to China, following a provisional green light from U.S. regulators, a move that signals a notable change in approach to high-tech trade with Beijing.

Like Nvidia’s H20 chips, AMD’s MI308 products were specifically restricted by the Trump administration following the roll-back of the Biden-era AI Diffusion Rule, which was set to restrict access to AI chips and AI model weights by countries, determined by a tiered system decided by the US government.
