Aaron Boone's future as the manager of the New York Yankees remains unclear, but if he does return, there will be some changes to the coaching staff.

At the end of what he described as a “tough year for me personally,” Aaron Boone said he expects to be back for a ninth season as the Yankees manager.

Given this update from Boone, it appears that Cole's recovery timeline is closer to 14 or 16 months rather than the 12-month expectation that's becoming more and more popular. Boone noted that he expects Cole to be ready soon after Opening Day, which would be a massive development for the Yankees.

Manager Aaron Boone confirmed as much Thursday and told reporters, "He actually had an MRI after the season, showed continued improvement in the flexor muscles. And he finished the season doing pretty well. No surgery is going to be needed for Aaron, he'll take some time off and continue to do strengthening things and rehab."
